Greenbrier Schools employs four full-time nurses that handle student health care needs while they are at school.  Healthy children are successful learners.  The school nurse has a multi-faceted role within the school setting, one that supports the physical, mental, emotional, social health of the students and their success in the learning process.  These are some of the responsibilities of the school nurse:
  • Screening for vision, hearing, scoliosis and BMI
  • Providing direct health care to students and staff
  • Referring students in need to appropriate medical professionals
  • Monitoring students with a special health care need and maintaining a Health Care Plan for the student
  • Administering medications
  • Coordinating a district training program for health related issues such as CPR certification, first aid and AED training
  • Administering first aid and responding to medical emergencies
  • Notifying the parents of students who have lice, educating parents about eradication of head lice, and rechecking students returning to school after being treated for head lice
  • Recommending changes in the environment to reduce health and safety hazards
  • Maintaining immunization records of student according to Arkansas state law
  • Annual reporting of screening and immunization records to Arkansas Department of Health

Flu Shot Clinic

The Greenbrier School Nurses and the Faulkner County Health Dept. will be holding our annual Free Flu Shot Clinic in October.  This is for Greenbrier students and staff only.  The dates/locations are as follows:

Friday, Oct. 26:
  • Wooster (cafeteria, starting at 8:00 AM)
  • Eastside (P.E. building, starting as soon as we finish at Wooster)

Monday, Oct. 29:
  • Westside/High School (WES P.E. building, 8:00 AM)
  • Middle School/Jr. High  (location to be announced later. We will start as soon as we finish with WES & HS)

Two forms are required to be filled out and submitted prior to the clinic.  The deadline for turning in forms is October 25.  No forms will be accepted on the days of the clinic.  All forms should be turned into the school office.

Faculty & staff members need to bring their drivers license and insurance card, and will need to fill out a consent form.  There is no cost for the vaccine, but the health dept. will file  insurance to recover some of the cost.
