The Read As One Initiative, which began at Wooster Elementary last year, is presently underway at Wooster and Eastside Elementary Schools. The focus book is The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. Students from kindergarten through 5th grade along with their families, staff members and community stakeholders, are engaging in this great story for the next several weeks by following a reading calendar and participating in literacy activities. The WE (Wooster Elementary) Read As One had a great kickoff celebration, including Mrs. Stevens reading chapter 1 to the entire school while students and staff sipped lemonade provided by PTO. After reading chapter 1, students participated in a prediction poll to guess whether Evan or Jessie, the two main characters, would win the lemonade war. At EES, the students were introduced to this initiative with the school’s very own lemonade stand and special announcements to parents.
The purpose of the WE Read as One initiative is to engage in meaningful discussions and a shared love for literature! By providing every student personal copies of the book, the schools are excited to engage families in sharing the love of reading and experiencing the story chapter by chapter.
