Mrs. Sarah Martin, Springhill Elementary teacher, recently opened her classroom for the cohort of Cognitively Guided Instruction teachers. Throughout the day, Greenbrier participants and teachers from several other districts collaborated on effective math assessment and instruction, observed Mrs. Martin facilitate the math learning, and joined together for reflection.
Cognitively Guided Instruction is a professional development program through which teachers explore a framework for how elementary school children learn number concepts, operations, and early algebra. Teachers also learn how to use this framework to engage their students in the Standards of Mathematical Practice described in the Arkansas Mathematics Standards. Thank you to Mrs. Martin and Arch Ford Service Cooperative for allowing this opportunity for teachers and students.
