GMS digital 1Digital Learning Day was also celebrated at Greenbrier’s Secondary Schools as a way to emphasize the technology and digital tools that are used for teaching and learning on a daily basis. Digital Learning Day was started as a way to actively spread innovative practices and ensure that all youth have access to high-quality digital learning opportunities no matter where they live. Some of the #DLDay activities at our secondary schools include:

At Greenbrier Middle School, 7th grade geography students collaborated on a project on Bolivia, using iPads and green screen to create a newscast using iMovie. Symbaloo was used in GMS science classes to assist in organizing articles for research. In STEM, students used tinkercad to develop objects to 3D print, and students were also 3D printing their creations! With EAST conference quickly approaching, EAST students worked on projects while being engaged in CodeHS, TinkerCAD, Sketch Up, and Canva.

Greenbrier Junior High connected Digital Learning Day to Read Across America Day in the library media center. Following the purpose of Read Across America Day, to motivate children to read,  GJHS student were “hanging out” with two schools, one from Idaho and another from Tennessee.  The schools’ kindergarten students read some books to GJHS students, and then our 9th graders from Mrs. Oliver’s class read to them.

ghs digital 5Greenbrier High School hosted several community members representing the city of Greenbrier, Greenbrier Chamber of Commerce, University of Central Arkansas, and Acxiom, in order to showcase its growing Computer Science Program. Additionally, several GHS students took on the role of teachers, preparing tutorial sessions for a variety of Google apps. The students led learning stations in the GHS library media center for any teachers or district staff members to participate in, allowing for adults to learn from our digital savvy students with hands via learning experiences. More GHS examples include Mrs. Edward's Social Media classes working on a digital escape room using locks related to the 4 P's of Marketing.

Thanks to all the secondary staff, students, and our community members who helped us celebrate Digital Learning Day!
