Springhill Spelling Bee
We had our Springhill Spelling Bee this morning! We were able to recognize the classroom winners from 1st and 2nd grade before beginning. We are so proud of all of our Springhill Spelling Bee contestants!!! Close Reading in 3rd Grade
Ms. Bowman and her 3rd grade Literacy students were hard at work this morning! They were completing a close read of a passage to determine different elements within the passage. Our youngest learners have started using the blending board during Phonics instruction! They've shown a growth mindset while learning their letters and sounds since the beginning of school. Which Apple is your Favorite?
Which apple is your favorite? Our youngest StandOUT students practiced their graphing skills while trying different types of apples to pick which was their favorite. Mrs. Isom teaching Vocabulary
Mrs. Isom found herself back in a Literacy classroom this morning. She modeled how to use the vocabulary wheel to Ms. Bowman's 3rd graders using a vocabulary word from their novel, The Orphan of Ellis Island. Vocabulary instruction happens daily, with the goal to expose students to the meaning of as many words as possible. Charlotte's Web
Time for their first novel of the year for our 2nd graders!!!! Teachers dressed up as characters from the book to hook the students. Success Criteria
Success Criteria is an instructional strategy that gives students a clear picture of what it takes to be successful in the lesson. Mrs. Wehlage and her students worked together to determine how they would be successful with identifying place value in the 1s, 10s, and 100s place. Math Small Groups in 5th Grade
We share a lot about small groups happening in K-2 but did you know small groups happen in 3-5 also? Mrs. Sutterfield is working with a group to review word problems using the KWS strategy. This is a tool students can use independently to solve word problems. Our teachers use small groups to differentiate based on specific student needs. This is just one way we work hard to ensure ALL students are learning. #SESstandOUT #GreenbrierProud

Wizard of Oz Hook
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME!!!!! Our first grade teachers dressed like characters from the Wizard of Oz to hook students for their upcoming novel! Students went through rotations to learn about each of the main characters and vocabulary related to each the characters. Teachers even acted out the traits that described each character. Everyone enjoyed this little bit of excitement so very much! #SESstandOUT #GreenbrierProud

3rd Grade Science Lab
Mrs. Street posed a question for her 3rd grade engineers…Can your home withstand the flood? Students have budgeted and planned a home to build that would hopefully last in a flood. They learned about structures and were able to build their own home! Hands-on learning was in full force today!!! They were so proud of their products.
