GMS Week 25-27
We spent Week 25 at GMS working very hard on our ATLAS Interim tests. We are SO PROUD of our students for their growth and hard work!
Weeks 26 and 27 were full of hands on activities and learning! Ms. Bridgeman's STEM classes have been building skimmers and got the opportunity to test their distance and accuracy. Students had a goal of completing two successful launches and then made tweaks to their designs if needed before relaunching!
7th grade social studies classes learned how to use nonfiction signposts to annotate informational text. They used different colored highlighters to define each signpost and categorize important information.
6th grade math classes were introduced to their new unit on ratios by completing a color lab. Students added different amounts of food coloring to show how different ratios change the color pigmentation.
6th grade social studies classes completed an "autopsy" of the Roman Empire. Students were surgeons and had to examine the "body" of Rome and determine what caused its fall.
Mrs. Miller's Fast Focus class reviewed photosynthesis skills by completing a "categories" activity. Students were given terms that they had to group into categories and then give titles to each group. This is a great RISE strategy that helps students connect and understand vocabulary terms!
We are so proud of EAST students Hudson Barcafer and Gavin Davis for their community project. These students proposed a Neighborhood Watch project for the city of Greenbrier, and it has been implemented into some of our local neighborhoods. They are showing leadership not only in our school, but also in our community!
