3rd grade readers kicked off their first novel of the year, "Orphan of Ellis Island", by visiting Ellis Island as European immigrants in the early 1900s! Students completed their Certificate of Arrival and visited the Registry table, Medical table, and Legal table before finding out if they were going to be welcomed to a new home or deported based on their qualifications. This would not have been possible without our fabulous 3rd grade family volunteers!
