Kindergarten was learning about the letter k and the phoneme /k/! They have already learned that the letter c can also make the /k/ sound. The teachers were introducing that letters a, o, and u often come before c with the cat graphic and letters e and i often come before k with the kite graphic! The c and k rule is important when spelling words that begin with the /k/ sound!
