Word Study Fun
Fifth grade students and teachers have been practicing phonics skills during word study this week! Word study is a protected time during the day for reading, writing, and spelling support. Teachers target their instruction based on spelling and reading assessments. Phonics is not always known for being an exciting subject, but Mrs. Crass and Mrs. Pozorski are shaking things up with games! Mrs. Pozorski did a vowel intensive game where students earned points for choosing the correct vowel quickly, while Mrs. Crass’ students flipped boards up to practice the “doubling” rule. *The doubling rule states that if a word has one syllable, one vowel, and ends in one consonant, you double the final consonant before adding suffix ‘ing’, ‘ed’, ‘er’, or ‘est’. The more you know, the more you can spell! #SESstandOUT #GreenbrierProud
