3rd grade students engaged in an immigration simulation as they pretended to enter into Ellis Island in search of freedom and fortune for their families, in hopes to make America their new country.

Students learned that immigrants arriving to America had to go through several steps of inspection in order to receive their entry ticket into America.

 

They will begin reading a novel called The Orphan of Ellis Island on Monday, a story about an orphaned Italian boy who faces hardships and lives out the reality of immigration, in hopes to reunite with his brother in America.
