We are #GreenbrierProud to present Maggie Lyra with the “Whatever It Takes” award! She goes above and beyond for the students, staff, and families at Westside Elementary. She is always trying new ways to teach and engage her students in their learning. This year specifically, Ms. Lyra has gone out of her comfort zone to try new things. Her students are working in Literature Circles and talking with one another about the content. They are more excited about reading than ever. She has facilitated instructional strategies from our school district’s model of instruction for all Westside staff - breaking strategies down, providing information, and videoing herself using those strategies, which has improved learning for everyone.

Data is always at the forefront of Mrs. Lyra’s instructional decisions. She leads collaboration within her literacy team to get ideas and feedback for improvement. More collaboration is noted in her partnership with her Special Education Co Teacher, planning every day, making adjustments, and using different co-teaching strategies to engage ALL Learners. Mrs. Lyra has stepped up as a leader on Westside’s School Team Empowerment team and is committed to the success of the WHOLE School. We are so appreciative of Maggie and her Whatever it Takes attitude!
