February Whatever It Takes Award | Katie Porter
We are excited to celebrate Mrs. Katie Porter of our Transportation Department as this month’s recipient of the Whatever It Takes Award. Mrs. Katie is a wonderful example of a staff member who makes lasting, positive impacts on students beyond the classroom and the regular school day. In addition to her regular bus driver duties, this year, Mrs. Katie volunteered to take the lead among our staff to help us organize our “B.U.S. Rider of the Month” program, as we recognize our bus riders for good behavior by providing positive behavior incentives and celebrate those bus riders that are positive examples for others to follow.
Mrs. Katie takes great pride in the physical appearance and neatness of her bus, knowing the importance of providing a safe, supportive, and caring environment for all those who ride with her each day. She establishes an orderly, respectful, and loving “classroom” on her bus, and is respected by her fellow drivers, students, parents and family members that she communicates with regularly. At times throughout the school year, she has gone the extra step to brighten her students’ bus ride by decorating her bus windows with positive and uplifting messages and festive holiday window artwork.
Please know that she is a highly skilled window-paint artist, if the district is ever needing one! All of these efforts successfully establish a welcoming and positive environment for her bus students. Mrs. Katie’s bus riders are lucky to begin and end their school day with her each day. Please join us in congratulating Katie Porter as a recipient of our Whatever It Takes Award for February.
