Greenbrier School District Breaks Ground on New Band Program Facility
The Greenbrier School District officially celebrated the groundbreaking of its new band program facility on Friday, May 8, during a ceremony held at the future building site near the current bandstand adjacent to Don Jones Stadium on the Greenbrier High School campus. District leaders, school board members, band directors, student band leaders, community
supporters, and project partners gathered to commemorate the beginning of construction on the new facility, which will support the continued growth and excellence of the district’s band
program. Attendees included Superintendent Scott Spainhour, School Board President Jennifer Hill, Greenbrier band directors, and student band leaders who participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking. The project is being completed in partnership with Nabholz Construction and Jackson Brown Palculict Architects, both of whom assisted in facilitating the groundbreaking ceremony and will play key roles in bringing the new facility to life. “This facility represents an investment in our students, our music program, and the future of Greenbrier Schools,” said Superintendent Spainhour. “Our band students and directors have built a tradition of excellence, and this new space will provide opportunities for continued growth and success for years to come.” The location of the new facility was intentionally selected to best support the daily needs and performance opportunities of the Greenbrier High School band program. Positioned adjacent to the existing bandstand and with direct access to Don Jones Stadium and the performance field, the new space will allow students and directors to efficiently rehearse, prepare, and perform while remaining closely connected to the heart of campus activities and community events. District leaders also emphasized the unique partnership between the band program, other student organizations, and the broader student body. The Greenbrier band program plays an essential role in fostering school spirit and community pride through its performances at home athletic events, pep rallies, and school celebrations. The energy, enthusiasm, and traditions brought by student musicians help create memorable experiences for students, families, and
community members alike.
The new band program facility is designed to provide expanded rehearsal, instruction, storage, and performance support spaces for Greenbrier’s growing band program. The facility will also
lead to other growing fine arts programs such as theatre and choir accessing additional learning spaces in the current Fine Arts Center. As student participation and interest in fine arts
opportunities continue to increase, district leaders noted that the project reflects the Greenbrier School District’s ongoing commitment to investing in comprehensive student experiences and
providing high-quality opportunities in a variety of student programs, including the arts. The Greenbrier School District expressed appreciation to its community partners, staff, students,
and supporters who helped make the project possible. Construction is expected to begin immediately following the groundbreaking ceremony.
