Career and Technical Education remains at the heart of our school community, with new programs for students being added each year. Examples include sports medicine, pre-engineering, and television broadcasting. Work based learning has re-invigorated community partnerships as students work part time or job shadow while also receiving high school credit and earning CTE completer status in their program of study. Other updates in CTE include computer science expansions with STEM and coding opportunities available beginning in middle school through junior high. Freshmen can take Computer Science I & II, while juniors and seniors are now able to take advanced courses such as the new Advanced Information Security Systems and Cybersecurity. As students progress through our secondary school pathways, they have model opportunities for college and career preparedness as well as to develop talents and interests.

Today’s cutting-edge, rigorous and relevant career and technical education  prepares youth and adults for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, high-demand careers.

The CTE Advisory Council is intended to enhance program development evaluation and technical assistance, increase employment opportunities in those specific career areas, provide guidance on skill requirements of the occupation, and be available for support in specialized equipment acquisition.

The CTE Advisory Council is made up of members from the community to help determine community needs, determine the career development needs of Greenbrier students, guide and support career & technical teachers, provide public relations, help secure equipment, supplies, and instructional material, assist in career & technical student organization work (Educator’s Rising, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA and HOSA), take part as guest speakers for classes and serve as judges when needed, and give input on improving our career & technical classes.
